I wasn’t organized enough this spring to get any seeds started under cover or indoors, but I did have several unopened packets of ornamental plant seeds laying around after the veggie garden was planted. Rather than have them sit around until next year or the year after and expire, I made this cat-proof outdoor seed starting bed out of scrap lumber and turkey netting. I can pop the lid off to plant, thin, and prick out, but the Boll Weevil and the neighbor cats can’t get in to, you know, make deposits.
Come September when our garlic arrives this is where it will be planted. Over winter the vegetable garden proper will either be under a green manure, a blanket of snow, or possibly a pig, and this location is much closer to the house so it will be easier to maintain.
